Thought Ild post my solution for Windows 20016 IIS 10 users out there. To further complicate things my administrator account didnt seem to have enough access rights to the moodledata folder on a network drive, so I added myself, perhaps the network drive was part of the confusion too. ![]() The CLI process must be running under my user account, not the web user. Solution: add access permissions to moodledata for the account I was logged into the server with. added myself to whole moodledata folder, appeared to work then. added myself to localcache folder with full access, helped added myself to cache folder with full access, helped, tried web interface update, no luck, blank page after a minute tried adding IUSR with Full access to cache folder, no luck tried deleted cache folder contents, no luck "Invalid permissions detected when trying to create a directory. Icacls allows for a lot more complexity when specifying permissions.Upgrading moodle 3.5.5 to 3.5.12 and encountered the following error while performing command line update in Windows/ IIS server. ![]() So the actual command looked like: cacls pending* /e /p Jason:FĬacls.exe is actually deprecated, so I should have used icacls to change the permissions. Since I was deleting the files, I gave myself full control over the files. The /e specifies to edit the ACL instead of replacing it and the P specifies the new permission. This gave me the permission that I specify at the very end since I specified my user name. Now I could go modify the permissions, but since I already have Command Prompt open… cacls path\to\folder\pending* /e /p : This successfully gave me ownership of each of those files. I then ran the command takeown /f path\to\folder\pending* I confirmed that the list exactly matched the files I needed to delete. This listed all of the files in the folder that started with ‘pending’.
